Freelancing 101- Learning a Profitable Lifelong Skill

More and more people in the UK and elsewhere around the world are realising that if you want to take charge of your career, then you may need to go it alone. More and more people are deciding that freelancing is the way forward for them, which means that they are making the effort to develop their own skills and expand their knowledge.

It is no secret that if you choose to gain lifelong skills through NCC Home Learning then you are going to be able to use this to your advantage in the future, but what are the benefits of learning something new and then using that to turn yourself into a fully fledged freelancer?

You have control over how much you earn

How much you earn is often a bug bear of someone who works for a company, or who is employed. After all, it doesn’t matter how much you do, or what effort you put in, you will earn the same. When you work for yourself you are in charge of what you earn, no-one else, this means if you want to put some extra effort in to make some more money, then that is down to you,

You set your own working pattern

Another key benefit to being a freelancer is that you are in charge of when you work, within reason and depending on what you do of course. Being able to set your own working pattern, deciding when you work is hugely beneficial. However, you should always remember that freelancing often means that you will work random and sometimes unsociable hours and it can be really hard to have a break.

You can use your skills to make money

There is nothing better than knowing that the money that you have earnt is all down to you. Even better, knowing that the money that you have earnt is because of something that you can do well. Being able to develop a skill then use it to make money is great, mainly because you will enjoy doing it and this will help you to want to do it more.

You can truly achieve the work/life balance

A work/life balance is not always the easiest thing to achieve and for many people it is incredibly elusive. However, you can always move yourself one step closer by becoming a freelancer. Many freelancers will do their work around their families and other commitments, and in the most part, it works. As we have already covered, it can be hard to find time for yourself when you are the only person that you can rely on for work (and earning money) but as time goes by and you become more aware of how to balance things, you will find it easier.

You have plenty of room for movement

Another great thing about freelancing is that you should never feel stuck in a rut when it comes to what you can do. It is down to you to move your business in the direction that you want it to. You don’t have to worry about asking for training, or worrying about making the move. If you want to develop your skills, if you want to make sure that you learn new things and expand what you can do, it is down to you to do this.

Becoming a freelancer is a great move to make in your career. Not only does it mean that you can truly do something that you love, but, in the most part, you will be able to do it exactly where and when you want to.  Perhaps this is why so many people are deciding that freelancing, in whatever form it comes in, is right for them?

The best place to start with freelancing is to make sure that you know what you want to do. It might be something that you already have plenty of experience in, or it could be something that is brand new to you.

No matter which, you will know that with a little help from online learning, you will develop the skills that you need to ensure that you need for the future.

Freelancing is difficult at times but I am happier now than I was in my previous job so despite the financial obstacles I love the new opportunities it brings to me everyday.

I like the idea of freelancing but I don’t think I could do it without a job as I don’t like the uncertainty of not knowing how much I could earn x

working freelance has been a steep learning curve for me, as I don’t like to leave things unfinished. But the flexibility has really allowed me to be there for my kids but earn at the same time. I wouldn’t change it!

Freelancing can be really hard and risky but it got so much more than that. You own your own time and that means more time for my family!

Freelancing is not as easy as it sounds and you do have to work probably much more that you would do in a 9-5 job. However, the satisfaction is definitely much more as it’s your own business.

I love being in control of my own work life. Freelancing is just so flexible when you have young kids. Great positive post!
