Brightening your home with VELUX roof windows

It’s a well-known fact that daylight boosts our mood. When we have bright sunny days, everyone tends to feel better, be more upbeat and feel healthier within themselves. We all know that when we are exposed to daylight, we are getting a boost of vitamin D, whether we are inside or outside, this is still the same. Here in the UK, we aren’t blessed with all year sunshine, so when we do have naturally light days, we need to make the most of this. A very simple way to achieve this, is by having roof windows throughout your home. VELUX create better living environments by bringing daylight and fresh air into people’s homes through their range of roof windows and skylights.

VELUX roof windows are something my parents purchased in our childhood home, and where they still live now. My Mum says it is still the best decision they made when it came to their kitchen design and the cost of Velux windows was well worth it. My parents love them so much that they also have a VELUX roof window in their single-storey bedroom extension. They extended from their bedroom to make a dressing room and then onto a bathroom. The roof window provides the perfect light for getting dressed and doing makeup using daylight, rather than artificial lights. In the main family shower room, they also have a VELUX roof window which is great for letting the fresh air in and the steam from the shower out.

We spend a lot of time in the kitchen, whether we are cooking or just having a catch up and the light certainly helps this by creating a bright and comfortable atmosphere for us. As we have remote controls for the roof windows, we also don’t need to struggle to open or close them as a click of a button opens them. They also close automatically if it starts to rain which is absolute genius! We can leave them open, allowing the fresh air to circulate without having to worry about the British weather.

Catherine from Growing Family has used VELUX roof windows in her single-storey kitchen extension to create an open plan family room that’s flooded with natural daylight too. Chrissy from Organise My House also shows how VELUX roof windows have transformed her kitchen. Becky from A Beautiful Space writes about the power of VELUX roof windows to add a lighter and brighter vibe to a kitchen and change the whole mood of a home.

Have you thought about having roof windows in your home? Sarah from Extraordinary Chaos, creates a light and airy loft bathroom using tiles and a cleverly placed mirror to bounce light coming through a VELUX roof window. Pop over to Gill from A Baby on Board for tips on how to plan your own loft conversion. Laura from SideStreetStyle has lots of tips on how to style a small loft bathroom for maximum potential.

Emma from Mummy Mummy Mum! has a lovely loft conversion that she uses as a playroom. It’s full of natural daylight thanks to the VELUX roof windows and gives her kids plenty of space to play and chill out with their friends.

Clare from Maybush Studio shares the beginning of her project journey to brighten her daughter’s bedroom by adding two VELUX roof windows. She has taken inspiration from her parents who have just added them to a loft conversion in their home.

I suspect we will be planning a single storey extension in the next 12 months, and seeing the impact VELUX roof windows have had on these homes has convinced me they need to be a part of our plan

Wow, those VELUX roof windows really direct the daylight right into the workspace don’t they – I LOVE the fact that they close when it rains too!

My sister has a bunch of VELUX roof windows in her house and I just love how much light they let in much nicer than electric light.

Love having lots of natural light in my rooms. I have always wanted to have an attic room with big windows in the roof

Roof windows can make such a difference especially when you have quite small spaces. If we had an extension/ conversion etc it’s definitely something we’d do x

I love VELUX windows! I get quite depressed when it’s dark inside my home so having big windows that let in so much life is a lifesaver for me!

I love these kind of windows as they let in so much light that can quite literally transform a room! That sounds like a great giveaway too!

We don’t own our own home so we can’t have these put in which is a shame as I’d love some more light in our kitchen if we were to extend it.

I’m rather envious of your automatically closing VELUX roof windows… such a neat feature!

I would LOVE a sky window in our kitchen or dining area, but it’s something I will have to consider for our next house!
