It is advisable to check the official website or contact the castle directly for the most up-to-date opening hours and any special events or exhibitions that may be taking place during your visit. We went on a Tuesday afternoon expecting an English speaking guide as advertised on the website but there wasn’t one that day. You can do a self guided tour though using the QR codes throughout the chateau in English and French.

A five-minute drive from the château, you’ll find Super U, a supermarket and petrol station. Every Saturday, the village hosts a market in the main square. Near the tourist office, there’s a children’s play area. Chateau de Villebois-Lavalette is located less than ten minutes away. The city of Angouleme, a thirty-minute drive, offers a variety of shops, restaurants, museums, cinemas, a soft play area, and bowling. Also thirty minutes away is Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne, a charming village worth visiting which features a small beach, boutique shops, restaurants, and a monolithic church. The tourbières of Vendoire are approximately ten minutes away, adjacent to Camping des Tourbières, which offers gîtes, drinks, ice creams, and a maize maze for exploration.
