I love taking photos of Lucas, I have an absolutely useless memory so I want to make sure I capture every moment and have photos to treasure and look back on.
As the weather is pretty miserable at the moment I thought it would be the perfect time to start organising my photos and I’m going to make sure that I continue doing this with Lucas as he gets older. At the moment he loves looking at photos, especially on the iPad, excitedly prodding at the screen whilst laughing.
Photo garland
Using an instant camera, create some photos throughout the day to make a photo banner or garlands around the house. These are perfect for children’s room or the toy room.
Photo Book
Making a photo book is a great idea and fun for children to help choose the photos and the layout that they would like. I made a photo book of my labour, starting with us going in before I was induced and ending with us leaving the hospital with Lucas. Make your own story book
Another photo book idea is making your own story book, using the child’s toys as the characters. Taking photos in various places around the house, the child can then either write on the printed photos or type on the computer and saving it to read together later on.
Memory book
My friend gave me a memory book when Lucas was born which I have started adding photos to with dates and milestones.
Calendar
I made D a desk calendar with photos as a Christmas present from Lucas, again this is another easy idea to involve children in getting them to choose photos and layouts.
Make a collage
I used to love making collages when I was younger, you can’t beat being able to make a mess and get sticky with glue, scraps of material, photos and glitter when you would usually be told to try and keep tidy.
Design online
Let the children take control in designing on sites such as canva and picmonkey. With so many backgrounds, overlays, text etc. their creativity can come to life.
Photo booth
A fab and more unique idea is hiring your own photo booth from somewhere such as OMG Photo Booths* where the photos are done for you and you can concentrate on having fun and dressing up. They provide you with over 100 props and you can have photos printed, onto a USB stick and on key rings. This would also work really well at a play group or birthday party.
Family bingo
Play family bingo, using 9 family photos in 3 lines. The bingo caller calls out a family member ‘Daddy’ or ‘Uncle H’ and their photo gets covered with a chip. The first person to have a line covered, wins.
