In order to have bright, gorgeous skin, we really need to take care of it. Here are some tips to make sure your skin stays clear and refreshed:
Always remove your make-up
It can be difficult (or near impossible) to remember to take off your make-up after a boozy night out when you fall into your bed at the end of the night (sometimes with no recollection of how you got there!) but it is important to try and remember to do this. Very occasionally shouldn’t cause much harm, but if you don’t wash off your make-up frequently, you will find that your skin ends up with a lot of blemishes the next day. Using a cleanser and moisturiser should do the trick before you head to bed. The Body Shop Drops Of Youth Foamwash is currently on sale at 50% off. Enriched with plant stem cells and Community Fair Trade moringa seed oil from Rwanda, the formula leaves your skin feeling mighty replenished. It won’t dry out your skin, so it’s perfect for tired, dehydrated skin types in need of a gentle foaming cleanser.
Give it a break!
Try to let your skin breathe once or twice a week, by taking a break from your make-up. Wearing make-up on a daily basis will almost suffocate your skin, so it’s good to give it some time to take a breath. When you do wear make-up, try not to trowel it on, as this too will suffocate your skin.
Get some exercise
Exercise is a great way of maintaining good skin, as it helps pump blood through the body. Half an hour of exercise should be standard in your daily routine and you can easily achieve this by going for a walk, or turning up your favourite music and doing some active housekeeping.
Drink plenty of water
Water can seem a bit dull, but it really is worth trying to consume the recommended 8 glasses a day. Water is one of the main elements for helping to keep the skin clear and refreshed. Remember, this includes the water you drink when exercising, which is probably far more than you think. Add some fresh fruit to give it a little extra flavour.
Eat Healthily
A good diet is a key to ensuring your skin stays young and glowing. We all enjoy the odd treat, but don’t let junk food be part of your daily diet, as it will result in spotty skin. Fruit and vegetables are an ideal way of achieving good skin.
Sleep, glorious sleep
A blissful 7-8 hours of sleep a night, will do wonders for the bags and dark circles from appearing on your skin. Keep late nights to a minimum as this will play havoc on your skin.
Stay away from the sun
Ok, not completely away from the sun, but try and stay out of it when it’s at its hottest, between 12 pm and 2 pm. Also, don’t be tempted by sunbeds, as they are unsafe and a surefire way of creating wrinkly skin. It might seem time-consuming, but a tan from a bottle is the healthiest way to keep your skin clear and tanned.
Use suncream daily, even if it’s not sunny, it’s a good idea to protect from UVA and UVB rays. If you are wearing makeup, get a foundation that has an SPF in it.
Lay off the alcohol
Too much alcohol is really bad for your skin as it dehydrates it, so keep your intake as minimal as you possibly can. Not only is it bad at the time, but the next day you will crave unhealthy food, which will only stand to make your skin worse. When you do drink, try and swap one or two drinks for a glass of water, or swap for a mocktail, to keep you hydrated.
Know your skin
When using any products on your skin, it is important to know exactly what they contain, and the effect this will have on your skin. Most skincare stores will be able to do a test on your skin, to determine which type you have, i.e. sensitive, oily etc.
Don’t touch
Keep your hands away from your skin, as this will result in spots from the oil. This includes picking at spots, as this will only result in multiplying the problem.
