When it comes to home decor and improvement, there are so many little things to do, and so many tiny details that really matter when it comes to beautifying the space. Regardless of whether you’re a DIY-er or not, looking at moving house or are just looking to add that ‘wow’ element to your inner space, you probably know things can get a teeny bit overwhelming when you decide to do it.

Feature walls and skirting boards are often a good place to start, and can actually make a big difference to the way your room looks, just by making a few simple changes and putting in a little effort.

So here’s helping you do it- keep reading to discover everything you need to know about feature walls and skirting boards and how they matter. Read on…

Feature Walls: What They’re All About

Feature walls, also often known as accent walls, are basically walls that have been coloured, patterned or textured differently than the walls of the rest of the room. The variations in these qualities are often subtle and follow the same colour tone and pattern as the rest of the room, but they may also sometimes be crafted using a completely different material or colour than the rest, usually to create a contrast and to add an element of freshness to the room.

If you’re planning to redecorate your home or just give it a nice, new look without having to spend a lot of time, energy and money, having a feature wall could be a great idea.

If this has got you interested already, wait up! Feature walls aren’t just about colour and texture but also about paying attention to the little elements of your wall, that often tend to go unnoticed, but still play a good role in determining the overall look and feel of the wall you’re planning to focus non- and one of those elements is the skirting board.

Skirting Boards: The Quick Guide

Skirting boards are also known as baseboards and are nothing but wooden or vinyl boards that cover the lowest parts of the interior walls of a house. The purpose of these boards are mainly protection and covering the joint between the surface of the wall and the floor, however, they are now also used for decorative purposes and play a noticeable role in enhancing accent walls.

Paying attention to the colour, texture and other aspects of skirting boards can take your feature walls up a notch.

Skirting boards are so easy to forget but you can definitely make an impact if you put some thought into it.

Simple decor changes like this can really transform a room. I like having a feature wall, but our skirting boards are all boring and painted plain white. Redecorating would be fab!

Skirting boards are the new thing now and we were just talking about redoing part of our rooms using this

I love the idea of making more of a feature of the skirting boards as we do tend to forget about them. We have feature walls in our living room and bedroom and I think it’s nice just to have something different in terms of a print for the room

I love the idea of feature wall. But I always worry about ruining it and not having in flow with rest of room. Thanks for the tips.

Great tips. I love the look of a feature wall but in my own home I tend to have the walls all one colour. I need to switch things up a bit! xxx
