Alternative bedroom storage solutions

Alternative bedroom storage solutions you might not have considered

If, like us, storage is a constant battle you face then it can be worth considering some storage solutions that are a little out of the box. Lucas likes to make a mess in any room he pleases – this can be anything from him getting every single one of his toys out in the living room to delving through the drawers in the bedrooms and nursery! Here are some often overlooked ideas to keep your home free from clutter.

Bedroom storage a vintage brown trunk

Vintage Trunks

An unusual and stylish way to store anything from blankets to bedding to clothes is inside a vintage trunk. I love scouring car boot sales and vintage markets for treasure and this has been at the top of my wish list for months now. With plenty of charm and potentially a story to tell all of their own, you can place one at the foot of the bed or use yours as a sort of shelving unit, stacking books, knick-knacks or a potted plant on top if you’re using it to store something you don’t need to get out everyday.

Ladders

If you’ve got a little space to spare in any of your bedrooms, a ladder can make a pleasing and unexpected way to store everyday items. Also a great way to show off favourite souvenirs or trinkets, you can use a ladder like this to hold books and stationery, toys, make up, or even items of clothing if you invest in some handy stackable boxes to ensure a neat finish.

Blanket Boxes

Perfect for the end of the bed, plush blanket boxes make a stylish home for storing clothing, bedding and more. Arlo & Jacob has an eclectic and luxurious selection, my favourite is the Jupiter Blanket Box – available in sumptuous velvet and in a range of chic colours, it’s sure to complement any interior style.

Shelving or Alcoves

When designing major metropolitan cities, architects decided to look up when creating more space for growing numbers of people. The same stance can be taken in your own home when it comes to storage. When running out of room, simply use the space above your head! Installing shelves or alcoves is an effective way of doing this – they are pretty simple to construct yourself if you fancy a bit of Sunday DIY and can be arranged in various shapes to add character.

A Storage Cube

Not just for hallways, a stylish storage cube can be used for storing shoes, handbags and more when placed in the corner of the bedroom. A flat top surface means it can also double up as a side table where you can arrange a lamp and leave a pile of favourite books ready to cuddle up with. A top tip is to arrange items in my aforementioned stackable storage boxes towards the back of the cube, and show off some favourite items at the front – a small vase of flowers, vintage vanity case or lacquered jewellery box will hide what’s behind whilst looking inviting and stylish at the same time.

Great ideas here. We live in a 2 bed flat so we need all the clever storage ideas! We already have an ottoman which also serves as toy box for the children.
