Functional Storage Hacks for Your Home

February 24, 2023 by Jenni

Functional storage hacks are an easy and cost-effective way to save time, space, and money around the home. They can help reduce stress and add practical value to any living space. Here we’ll look at some of the most helpful storage hacks that anyone can utilise in almost any room of the home.

Why is organisation important?

Organising is an important way to keep spaces tidy and stress-free. Allocating a spot for each item and making sure they are placed back in their original locations eliminates the anxiety of searching through piles of clutter. Organising also allows room for other, more enjoyable activities as it ensures that obstacles don’t take up valuable time or space.

Organising can help you to save money in the long run as things are easier to find, meaning you don’t have to go out and buy new items unnecessarily. It will help with overall happiness as a well-organised space tends to feel more inviting and comfortable than one overwhelmed by clutter.

Of course, there are also some things that you can’t part with for a variety of reasons. You don’t want to sell them, but they can take up space. So what can you do? Before starting your spring clean and organising the home, consider hiring storage containers in your local area to safely secure your most treasured valuables.

Multi-Purpose Furniture

Multi-purpose furniture is a great way to maximise efficiency while saving space and money. A good example of this is a trunk at the foot of your bed, it can be used as extra seating, hold blankets and pillows, or even store books and magazines. Wall-mounted shelves are also an excellent option for those tight on space; make sure they are securely attached so they don’t come crashing down!

Clothing Storage Solutions

For clothing storage, hanging clothing racks can help save floor space if you have limited wardrobe pieces like suits or dresses that need to be hung up. Under-bed containers work well for out of season items or anything else you might not need ready access to.

Kitchen Organisers

The kitchen presents plenty of opportunities for clever storage solutions, such as cupboard organisers and pull-out shelves for maximum organisation inside cabinets. Utensil caddies with lids make great use of countertop space. Just make sure they don’t impede easy access when guests are over! Investing in a couple of stackable baskets can help sort ingredients according to type (canisters work, too!).

Small Items

Don’t forget about the importance of organising smaller items, such as papers and pens, which tend to get left strewn across desks and counters. Consider buying storage units or boxes that won’t take up much room but still provide accessible retrieval when needed. Try sticking them on top of cabinets or inside drawers for added convenience. Shelving is an important part of making sure your home has functional storage.

Garage Organisation

Organising the garage can be tough, but some simple storage solutions can help keep everything neat and tidy. Invest in overhead garage shelving or wall-mounted racking to maximise vertical space while also using stackable boxes or bins to contain smaller items. It’s also helpful to assign certain sections of the garage for different types of items, such as tools or sports equipment. Use labels to make sure everyone knows where things should go, this will help keep clutter at bay and make finding items much easier!

Bathroom organisation

If you are short on space in the bathroom or toilet room, adding a shelf above the toilet is an excellent way of maximising the space you have to stock toilet rolls, add storage boxes for toiletries. If you have some floor space, use a tiered shelving unit to use the space vertically rather than horizontally.

Utilising functional storage hacks in your home can prove invaluable; not only does it mean that you have more room for other purposes, but everything being organised also reduces stress levels! Whether it’s adding shelving above beds or using corner cupboards for extra pantry items, taking a few steps towards better management will benefit anyone’s lifestyle in both practical terms as well as emotionally.
