How to freshen your bedroom for spring and summer

There’s something special about freshening up your room for spring and summer – after all, it’s the perfect time for a spring clean! Changing your room around or switching out some of your winter linen is the perfect way to celebrate the warmer weather. Plus, a few updates here and there can help set your bedroom up for those warmer nights.

From bringing in new colours and decorations to updating your sheets and quilt, here are a few quick tips that will help you say goodbye to winter blues and hello to a fresh bedroom for spring and summer!

Give your space a spring clean

There really is no better excuse for a spring clean than in spring! A clean and declutter of your bedroom can go a long way toward freshening it up without touching your decorations or bedding.

Unsure of where to start? Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Wipe down all your surfaces. Take things off shelves and shift some of your decorations to ensure you get into every nook and cranny where dust gathers.
  • The same goes for vacuuming. You might find moving some of your furniture easier, ensuring you get under the bed and behind the dresser.
  • Take a look at other surfaces like your windows and mirrors and give them a wipe down if needed.
  • Rearrange your space. This can include your bed, dressers or drawers. You may want to experiment with different layouts until you find the best one that maximises space, creating a better flow.

Take stock of your bedding

The change of season is a good time to look at your bedding, including your sheets, quilt and mattress. As the weather starts to warm up, you may want to switch your heavy winter bedding for lighter fabrics.

As the temperature begins to rise, it’s often our quilt that gets kicked off throughout the night. Try switching out your heavy winter quilt for a lighter, more breathable option. Cotton is a great option for a lightweight quilt that will help keep you more comfortable all night long.

When it comes to your sheets, look for materials like linen or cotton. These materials are known for being breathable and lightweight, helping to keep you cooler throughout the night.

Switch out colours and patterns

One of the easiest ways to create a fresh look for your bedroom is with a change of colour palette. For some, the warmer months are all about natural, calming colours.

This can include pairing back your bedroom space with neutral tones like cream and beige. Natural materials like linen are also a popular choice to help make your space feel even more relaxing.

For others, a pop of colour or even print can be a great way to bring some of the warmth inside. Add some freshness with a light green to mimic nature or even play with some patterns. At the end of the day it’s all up to you and how you love styling your space!

Update your accessories

Accessories can be small touches that are able to make your bedroom feel quite different ahead of the change in season. In spring and summer, you might like to freshen up with new throws, rugs, candles and decorations that can help make your space feel light and airy. New scents or throws in neutral colours can help make your space feel refreshed and light – perfect for the warmer months.

Then there’s also the artwork or pictures on your walls. Take the opportunity to update some of your framed pictures of loved ones or recent adventures. Or, splash out completely with a new piece of art. Whatever brings you joy, helping to create a bedroom sanctuary you’ll love to retreat to at the end of a long day.

Bring the outdoors in

The smell of freshly cut flowers signals the return of spring, so why not consider a beautiful vase of fresh flowers to brighten up your space? You can pop a fresh bouquet on your nightstand or dresser for a pop of colour and fragrance.

If you prefer plants over flowers, then consider bringing in some greenery to help bring the outside in. For summer, choose plants that thrive in bright, indirect light and don’t require a lot of maintenance, such as succulents or snake plants.

There’s also plenty of plant or flower-free options. Mimic the beauty of nature with candles and incense that harbour natural scents like flowers and wood to keep your home feeling like a natural sanctuary.

Freshening up your space

As the weather warms up, it’s a great time to freshen your bedroom for Spring, giving it a new look for spring and summer. With these simple steps you can transform your space into a bright and airy oasis, ready for the warmer months ahead.
