Choosing baby names by zodiac

Choosing a baby name is a huge responsibility, as the name will be with the child for a lifetime. Many parents interested in astrology believe that choosing a name based on the stars and planets can help increase the natural positive aspects of personality while soothing weak planetary aspects.

Cultures Choosing Names by Astrological Sign

Many cultures, both past and present, have believed that names based on the positions of the planets and stars at birth bring luck and can balance weak aspects of their horoscope. Even now in India, some families hire an astrologer to select auspicious names based on the Rashi (moon sign).

In China, astrologers used to work out the elements related to the planets that are in place at a child’s birth and then construct a horoscope on the third day after the baby’s birth. The horoscope is used to determine if there is a balance of the elements and may recommend a name that will correct any imbalances for the child.

How to Choose a Zodiac Baby Name

Rather than choosing obvious names related to sun signs such as Leo it can be helpful to research the characteristics associated with the zodiac sign that could be represented in a name choice. This is a creative way to both show your passion for star signs and astrology while not making it so obvious. With a lot of research, you can always come up with creative names. You can do your own research on the internet by checking out astrological websites. For example, if your child is going to be born under the Virgo zodiac sign, you may need Zodiac Story’s Virgo horoscope to come up with some interesting name ideas.

An example is choosing “Keith” for a Capricorn boy as it means “wood or thicket” (referring to the earth element related to the Capricorn) or Diana (Roman moon goddess) for a baby girl expected to be born under the sign of Cancer because the moon relates to the astrological sign.

Zodiac Sign Dates and Information

In order to select names that are in balance with a zodiac sign, it is important to know the personality traits and elements relating to the sign. Here is a breakdown of the twelve zodiac signs with dates, elements, planets and characteristics:

Aries: the Ram, March 21 – April 19, Mars, fire sign – independent, confident and energetic

Taurus: the Bull, April 20 – May 20, Venus, earth sign – determined, stubborn and dedicated

Gemini: the Twins, May 21 – June 21, Mercury, air sign – sociable intelligent and ambitious

Cancer: the Crab, June 22 – July 22, Moon, water sign – emotional, intuitive and sympathetic

Leo: the Lion, July 23 – August 22, Sun, fire sign – generous, friendly and temperamental

Virgo: the Virgin, August 23 – Sept. 22, Mercury – earth sign, intelligent, calm and meticulous

Libra: the Scales, September 23 – October 23, Venus, air sign – peaceful, just and sympathetic

Scorpio: the Scorpion, October 24 – November 21, Mars, water sign – loyal and determined

Sagittarius: the Archer, November 22 – December 21, Jupiter, fire sign – honest and imaginative

Capricorn: the Goat, December 22 – January 19, Saturn, earth sign – loyal, stable and blunt

Aquarius: the Water Carrier, January 20 – February 18, Uranus, air sign – friendly and idealistic

Pisces: the Fish, February 19 – March 20, Neptune, water sign – imaginative and compassionate

An astrologer can give more accurate advice by drawing up a natal chart after the birth, but prospective parents can still choose a baby name based on the zodiac sign and discover the meaning behind a name and the sun sign.

What a cute and meaningful way to pick a name! I didn’t realize this was a thing that people used for names.

This is so interesting, I loved choosing our children’s names. We went for all Irish names, just because we liked the sounds and the meanings of them.

This sparks a lot of intrigue. It makes me wonder why my dad chose to name me what he did. I like the idea that there’s some sort of symbolism in the naming process.

Very interesting and good ideas. Mostly women will search for the names of their child now I have an idea.

I saw someone make a makeup line based on zodiacs. I think her name is Kathleen Lights if you want to check her out. She’d probably love your post too, if she was having a lil one. 🙂
