The sun, chlorine, and saltwater have taken their toll and hair is now dry, brittle and can even be falling out. Here are the best ways to ensure healthy hair by Halloween.

Taking Care of Colour
Colour can tend to be washed out and faded-looking by this time in the year. It usually needs a fresher, richer appearance after the toll the sun and chlorine have taken on it. Most women go towards lighter, more honey-toned blonde shades for the summer. For autumn, the hair needs a break from the bleach and lightener, so go with more natural colour.
Natural blondes can opt for more of a golden, darker shade to give hair a break and complement their skin tone. Natural brunettes can go for more of a rich, chocolate shade. Most darker shades have conditioning qualities in them. Not only will your hair appreciate a break from the harsh bleaching, but you will start to feel like autumn is coming.
Make sure to keep moisture in the hair as much as possible. Even after the hair feels like it’s in better condition, continue to use a treatment at least once a month. The key to healthy hair is to always be treating it instead of letting go and fixing it later. Keep up with regular trims so the ends don’t get too dry again, and consult your stylist if more problems persist.
Eat a healthy diet
A healthy, balanced diet of good fats (eg avocados, olive oil, omega-3s, nuts), proteins (eg chicken, eggs, dairy, lean meats) and an abundance of vitamins and minerals are essential to good hair, skin, and nails.

I’ve never colored my hair, so I don’t have to worry about that. I do have to take care of my hair and scalp and keep it moisturized during the few cold months we have here in south Texas. My hair doesn’t do well with dry weather, I prefer humidity and warmth.

I’ve been working on going lighter myself. I do try to do treatment to help boost moisture more too.

Good post. Though I don’t have anywhere close to the length and texture of hair that a woman has, I still value the health and appearance of my hair. For me, making sure my hair is adequately moisturized is paramount. Also, as a result of some education from my barber a few years ago, I’ve adjusted my diet and eating habits to help the overall health of my hair.

I take for granted that hair care changes with the season. But it is important.
