Last Sunday we were invited* to Blackpool to watch The Snowman. Based on the Raymond Biggs book, The Snowman Tour brings to life this enchanting film via a big screen accompanied by a live, professional orchestra playing the original score. A young local soloist also sang the iconic “Walking in the air” written by Howard Blake. She was incredible!
Before The Snowman started we watched an animated film based on David Litchfield’s award winning book The Bear and the Piano. The animation was narrated by Joanna Lumley and was also accompanied by the live orchestra.
It took place in Blackpool Tower’s Ballroom which is just the most stunning venue, if you haven’t been it is definitely worth a visit. It was the perfect place to bring these magical tales to life. We sat on a higher tier straight in front of the stage so it was a perfect view. There were seats on the ballroom floor on the same level as the stage but I wanted to be higher to ensure Lucas could see everything properly.
In between The Bear and the Piano and The Snowman, a snowman went onto the ballroom floor, having a dance to the orchestra playing and wandering through the audience, Lucas was so excited when he saw him walking out! There was also an interval where the children could have a play and walk around in between. This was fab for keeping their attention once The Snowman started as they hadn’t had to sit too long watching 2 films.
We had such a lovely afternoon and I would highly recommend it, we will definitely be going to watch it next year x
