Car Tyres – Get a Grip for Your Summer Holiday

With summer holidays nearly here, I’m sure you have plenty of day trips planned or even a road trip. Ensuring your tyres are legal and roadworthy is not only a requirement but it’s a car safety check that you should undertake on regular basis and definitely before you set off on a long journey.

Car Tyre - Get a Grip for Your Summer Holiday

Most importantly the manufacturer of your vehicle will specify the suitable pressure for your tyres. The minimum depth of tread on your tyres is 1.6 millimetres, across the central ¾ which is 75% of the tread around the complete circumference of the tyre. Many vehicle manufacturers recommend replacing at 3 millimetres. At 1.6 millimetres in wet weather, it takes an extra car length (8 metres) or 50% further to stop at 50 mph than if your tread was 3 millimetres. In case if tyres are under inflated, they can cause overheats and poor handling on the road.

Vehicles with under inflated tyres have increased rolling resistance that requires more fuel to maintain the same speed. Correct tyre pressure helps to maintain fuel efficiency. If you do need new tyres, it’s easy to book your tyres online for more information, head to Jet Wheel Tyre website. If you are in the Essex area, this garage would even offer a free fitting service. This can equate to lower CO2 emissions coming from your vehicle so much better for the environment.

If you don’t have a legal tyre tread it results in an MOT failure and also a fine of £2500 and 3 points on your licence per illegal tyre if you are pulled over so make sure you check them regularly.
