The best family activities for you to try this summer

June 23, 2022 by Jenni

Feel like you didn’t make the most of last summer? You’ve come to the right place. We’ll be exploring exactly how you can squeeze every drop of joy out of the summertime this year.

Many people think that summer activities are expensive. But this simply isn’t the case. There are loads of options to make the summer more fun while you still stay on track financially.

So, what are some of the best options? We’ve written this short article with that question in mind. Keep reading for our list of the best ways for you to spend more time together this summer and have a great time while you’re at it.

Spend time in nature

It almost goes without saying, but summertime is the best time to get outdoors. The kids are off school, the days are longer, and the sun is shining (most of the time, at least).

Not only is spending time in nature fun, but it’s also incredibly good for you. First of all, by soaking up the sunshine, you stave off vitamin D deficiency for you and your tots, which is a real problem in the UK thanks to our famously gloomy weather. On top of this, being outdoors is well known to give us many mental health benefits.

With so much to gain, what are some great ways for your family to get outdoors? Take your pick of the following:

  •  Play board games in your garden
  • Grow fruits and veggies
  • Go camping
  • Take up sports
  • Spend a day at the local park
  • Host a BBQ or picnic

Arts and crafts

Want a whole category of activities that are fun, can be done virtually anywhere and have a whole bunch of benefits for your kids? Look no further – arts and crafts are exactly what your family needs this summer.

Making things requires using fingers and hands delicately. As such, taking part in arts and crafts helps develop fine motor skills, especially in younger children. The fact that most of them are relatively cheap helps you keep your wallet healthy and, most importantly, they’re lots of fun for your kids.

Here are some of our top crafty activities:

  • Make slime
  • Bake sweet treats
  • Build homemade instruments
  • Paint rocks
  • Fold origami
  • Make your own bath bombs
