Lunch and soft play at Highfield restaurant in Croston

A few weeks ago we were asked if we would like to review* the Highfield restaurant in Croston near Preston. There was no way I could turn this down as it’s one of Lucas’ favourite places to visit. We live 5 minutes away from the Highfield and regularly visit to play in their Fuzzy Ed’s soft play area. I have been with my parents, grandparents and friends. It’s one of those places with affordable meals but without scrimping on the quality or portion sizes. As there is a separate side with the soft play in, it’s also fab to go for a play and cup of coffee.

I went a couple of weeks ago with Lucas, D and my Grandma. We went between 11.30 and 12ish on a Wednesday after Lucas’ swimming lesson. The restaurant was getting busy and there was a queue to the bar to order. The restaurant has recently been refurbished as part of the Sizzling Pubs chain. The restaurant is smartly decorated in a contemporary way and there is so much space. It is very well laid out if you are visiting with a pram or wheelchair.

You can eat either in the main restaurant area or in the Fuzzy Ed’s part. We ate in the main restaurant area and chose a booth. Once we had decided what we would like we went to the bar to order.

My Grandma chose a jacket potato from the light bite menu and had it with chilli and sour cream. It also came with a side salad. For desert she went for treacle sponge which was served with custard and ice cream.

D went for the Pepper Jack Stack burger. This was two beef burgers topped with melted Pepper Jack cheese, streaky bacon and onion rings. It was served in a lightly toasted brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, red onion and mayo. Served with seasoned chips and sauce on the side. He said it was a taste sensation! For desert he had vanilla and caramel cheesecake which consisted of baked cheesecake topped with a Lotus Biscoff crumb, served with fluffy cream and toffee sauce.

I opted for the vegetarian jerk bean burger served in a lightly toasted brioche bun with lettuce, tomato and red onion. It was also topped with grilled pineapple and tomato salsa, I never thought of putting pineapple on a burger but it works so well! It was absolutely delicious. It came with seasoned chips and sauce on the side.
For desert I had to try the pink gin bar! Layers of creamy pink gin-flavoured mousse and summer berry compote topped with an oaty toffee crunch biscuit crumb, served with raspberry sauce and fluffy cream. It is incredible, if you have a Sizzlers near you, go and try this, especially in the summer weather.

Lucas obviously chose from the children’s menu and I love how this is set out. There is a meal deal for under 5s and over 5s. For each, you choose a main, a side, a vegetable, desert and drink. This makes is perfect for even the fussiest of eaters as you can mix n match to ensure your child will get something they will like to eat and not be wasting anything. Lucas chose fish fingers (main), chips (side) and grilled corn (veg). For desert he went for mini melt chocolate pudding which is a lower in sugar version of the adults melt in the middle chocolate pudding.

We all really enjoyed the meal, the staff are courteous and friendly. Having Fuzzy Ed’s there is a definite bonus as after dinner, Lucas could have a good play in there. I highly recommend it whether you fancy a drink out, lite bite or proper meal out with family or friends x
