Any pests can be a serious problem for the household, be they mosquitoes, mice, ants, or otherwise. However, few other pests can do as much damage quite as quickly as the termite. Here, we’re going to take a look at how you can determine if your home has a problem with termites, as well as what you should do about it.
You’re seeing what looks like sawdust in places around the home
As with all pests, the best strategy is to try and prevent them from coming in. Sometimes, the right pest-repellent plants can do just that. If you’re unable to do that, one of the first signs of termite presence that you might see is if they start leaving their droppings around the place. These droppings look like small mounds of sawdust and will be left in piles that seem otherwise completely random. Flying termites will shed their wings, too, another clear visual sign.
You hear unexplained noises from inside the wall
An unexplained noise in the home might not drive you to worry too much, but if it sounds like clicking, it might actually be the termites “speaking” through your walls by banging up against the tunnels that they have built inside, which may mean a serious infestation of them.
Windows and doors don’t seem to fit their frames
One of the reasons that a termite infestation is so serious is that they can do real damage to your home, especially any wood that’s used in its construction. One of the earliest signs of this damage is that your doors and windows might start getting stuck. This can happen due to moisture and humidity building up, but if it comes along with any of the other signs or when there haven’t been any changes in the weather, it’s more likely to be termites.
You spot unexplained damage when you take off wallpaper or wall panels
Termites can go unnoticed for a long time if you cannot take heed of the more subtle signs, as mentioned above. However, if you ever have to strip the covers from the wall, you might find visible damage there, and, at this point, if you don’t know the source, it’s time to call termite control services. Otherwise, you don’t know how extensive and deep that damage will get.
There are tunnels in your wood
Of course, if termites find wooden furniture and surfaces to start digging into that are out in the house, they may well do that. Be able to identify termite tunnels by sight, especially if you live in an area that is known to have them or if you have a lot of wooden furniture in your home.
Not only can termites be unhygienic and unpleasant to encounter, as with any other pest, but they can also pose a serious threat to the health and safety of the home. If you have noticed any of the signs above, then it’s time to take steps to eliminate them.
