Sea Buckthorn Oil Skincare Benefits

September 11, 2023 by Jenni

Sea buckthorn oil is rich in many vitamins and minerals and as a result, has many skincare benefits. It is native to the Northern States of Europe (around the Baltic Sea).

Sea buckthorn oil is high in vitamin C. In fact, it contains 10 times more vitamin C than oranges do! Vitamin C is good for the skin because it protects against UV damage from the sun. This can help to prevent ageing caused by the sun. It can also help to even out the skin’s completion.

Fatty acids are important to skin care. The fatty acids in sea buckthorn oil include palmitic acid and stearic acid. They are particularly good at smoothing and softening the skin by forming a protective layer over the skin. This also helps to keep moisture locked in to prevent skin from becoming dehydrated. Dehydrated skin can lead to patchy skin or fine lines and wrinkles becoming more pronounced.

Omega acids are also important for skin care. Many skincare products boast about their omega acids but sea buckthorn oil is one of the only plant-based products with all 4 omegas (omega-3,6,7 and 9). Omega acids are important for the skin because they are essential building materials and build cell membranes. This means that they can make skin look younger and smoother. Omega 6 can also improve blood circulation which helps to deliver oxygen to the cells and remove toxins. Omega- 7 can stimulate skin regeneration, making you heal faster and minimise scarring.

Sea buckthorn oil contains many antioxidants. These antioxidants help to protect your skin against the signs of ageing. It also contains phospholipids and glycolipids which also help slow the signs of ageing by improving skin elasticity and softening the outer layer of the skin.

Sea buckthorn oil also contains linolic acid. This regulates skin metabolism and sebum production. Because of the regulation of sebum production, sea buckthorn oil is brilliant for preventing acne breakouts. It also reduces pore blockage and blackheads. Because of this, sea buckthorn oil is suitable for use on oily skin.

Sea buckthorn oil is packed full of vitamins and minerals that greatly benefit your skin. It can not only help your skin now but prevent future damage.
