Steps to frizz-free hair

July 31, 2023 by Jenni

Who doesn’t want smooth, frizz-free hair that looks effortlessly elegant? Battling frizz can be a frustrating experience, but achieving luscious locks is certainly possible with the right steps.

Embracing Proper Hair Care Routine

Establishing a proper hair care routine is crucial to combat frizz. Start with a sulfate-free shampoo and a moisturizing conditioner that suits your hair type. Frequent conditioning can help restore moisture and reduce frizz. After showering, gently pat your hair dry with a microfiber towel or an old cotton t-shirt to avoid rough towel fibres contributing to frizz. Avoid rubbing vigorously with a regular towel, as this can roughen the hair cuticles, leading to more frizz. Additionally, if you have naturally curly hair, brush your hair when wet; using a wide-toothed comb or a brush with natural bristles can prevent unnecessary damage and keep your hair looking smooth.

Hydrating and Protective Hairstyling Techniques

A major cause of frizz is the lack of moisture in the hair. To combat this, it is essential to keep your hair hydrated. Invest in a good quality leave-in conditioner or a hydrating serum that can lock in moisture. Applying these products while your hair is slightly damp will ensure better absorption. Consider using a diffuser attachment when blow-drying your hair on a low or cool setting to dry without frizz. One I have seen recently that looks like it is worth a try is the mdlondon BLOW hairdryer. Avoid excessive heat from styling tools, as this can deplete moisture from the hair. On days when you’re not in the mood for heat styling, embrace protective hairstyles such as braids, buns, or twists that can shield your hair from environmental factors that trigger frizz.

Maintaining Hair Quality and Overall Health

Frizz can also occur when our hair lacks essential nutrients. Maintaining a healthy diet of vitamins and minerals can significantly improve your hair’s texture and reduce frizz. To promote hair health, incorporate foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, walnuts, and chia seeds. Regular trims every 6-8 weeks can remove split ends, which contribute to frizz. Additionally, avoid overwashing your hair, as it can strip away natural oils, leading to dryness and frizz. When styling, use high-quality heat protectant sprays or serums to shield your hair from damage caused by straighteners or curling irons.

Frizz Free hairstyles

The Classic Ponytail

The ponytail is a timeless hairstyle that not only keeps our hair out of our face but also helps minimise frizz. For a frizz-free version, start by using a smoothing hair serum or cream to tame any unruly strands. Then, brush your hair back and secure it with a hair tie at your desired height. You can choose to keep it sleek and polished or give it some volume by gently pulling the hair tie downwards to create a bubbled effect.

The Upside Down Braid Bun

If you’re looking for something a bit more intricate but still frizz-free, the upside down braid bun is your answer. Begin by flipping your hair upside down and brushing it to ensure a smooth texture. Then, start braiding from the nape of your neck upwards, incorporating small sections of hair from the sides as you go. Once you reach the crown of your head, gather all the remaining hair and create a bun at the top. Secure it with bobby pins and add some hairspray to keep everything in place. This hairstyle not only keeps frizz at bay but also adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to your overall look.

The Low Maintenance Beach Waves

If you’re a fan of effortless and carefree hairstyles, you’ll love the low maintenance beach waves. The best part? They work exceptionally well for combating frizz. To achieve this look, start by scrunching a texturising mousse or sea salt spray onto slightly damp hair. Then, divide your hair into several sections and twist them away from your face. Apply some heat using a diffuser attachment on your blow dryer or let your hair air dry if you have the time. Once your hair is dry, unravel the twists and gently tousle your waves with your fingers. Finish off with a light hairspray to hold the style in place. These tousled waves will give you that effortless, beachy vibe while keeping frizz under control.

Frizz can be a constant battle, but armed with the right techniques, you can achieve the desired smooth, frizz-free hair. You can tame the unruly frizz and embrace your natural hair texture by embracing proper hair care routines, hydrating and protective hairstyling techniques, and maintaining overall hair health. So, say goodbye to the fear of frizz and hello to beautifully smooth locks!
