Last week I took my Grandma to The White Lion in Wrightington for her birthday lunch. We met my cousin and her little boy there who we hadn’t seen for months so it was a nice little catch up.
I haven’t been to The White Lion for years but my friend recommended it as the place they always take friends when they are on date nights. It has a good sized car park and from there you can enter through the back.
The first thing I fell in love with was the cute beach hut style seating area they have in the beer garden. That is a fab first impression. When we went into the pub we were asked if we wanted to sit in the pub area or the restaurant area. As we had 2 toddlers I decided on the more relaxed looking pub area.
We arrived at 12.30 and there were a couple of tables taken, by the time we left at 2, the whole of the pub and restaurant area was full. The atmosphere was really nice and relaxed and the staff were really attentive.
We were given 3 menu’s and a children’s menu. There was a normal menu, an early bird menu and a light bites menu. The children’s menu also consisted of 2 different sections for younger children and older children which I thought was a really good idea.
I ordered Lucas chicken nuggets, chips and beans from the younger children’s menu and my Grandma, cousin and I chose from the early bird menu.
I had steak and ale pie followed by chocolate fudge cake. My cousin had bacon and cheese omelette followed by chocolate cheesecake. For the omelette there are a variety of fillings and you can choose 2 in it. My Grandma had fish and chips followed by apple pie. We were all really impressed by the portion sizes and it tasted absolutely delicious, I sometimes find on early bird menus the portions can be a little stingy but they were generous portions here. The early bird menu is served Monday-Friday 12-6.30 and costs £11.95 for 2 courses and £15.95 for 3 courses.
I loved how everything was presented from the food on the plate to the sauces being in little jars and the milk in glass bottles with the tea pot rather than a jug. The pub was lovely and warm with a fire burning and it was nicely decorated for Christmas. I will definitely be returning to explore some more of the menu x
