Finding Comfort Away from Home: Benefits of Short-Term Rentals for Families Travelling to London

Travelling with your family can be a wonderful time when you all make wonderful memories and enjoy seeing landmarks, trying new experiences and learning all about new cultures. But it can also be a stressful and trying time, especially if it is the trip which lets you know that your child is no good with change, doesn’t like hotel life, or isn’t as fond of travel as one might have hoped. But there are ways to anticipate such problems by finding comfort away from home – ways to soothe and calm your family jitters so well that the holiday is, after all, a good thing. Let’s take a look.

Holiday Apartments

Hotels can be quite exposing for young children, who might become overwhelmed with eating in public dining rooms. Rather than put your children in the ‘on-show’ environment of a hotel eatery, why not cook for them in the comfort of your ‘own’ home? Serviced apartments provide the ideal home away from home, offering all the comforts and mod cons of a fully equipped flat alongside many advantages of hotel housekeeping, from room service meals to cleaners coming in to put everything back for you. The beauty of these accommodations is that they allow you to cater exactly to your family’s fussiest needs without losing out on the joys of travel. Plus, having a ‘home’ to return to can create a haven where the children can relax and be off their best behaviour for a while, which makes it easier for them to behave well while out and about. Plan Your Days

Some children thrive on surprises, but when every day brings adventure and novelty, sometimes having a plan can be a useful way to calm and centre them. Make sure you try to cater to their interests, not forgetting your own, so everyone has something to look forward to and enjoy. Also, make definite plans for meals: walking around London with no specific destination can be overwhelming with all the choices on hand! If money is an issue, you can bring packed lunches (making these yourself is another benefit of using serviced apartments!) to wherever you are exploring that day. At lunchtime, find a public park and have a picnic or head to one of the many big museums that usually have places for visitors to eat their food.

Less is More

When it comes to London, it is infinitely better to book as long a stay as you can afford so that you do not have to rush about from one place to the next without having enough time to enjoy each experience. For example, visiting one museum in the morning and spending as long as possible there, then devoting the rest of the day to running about in a park and walking along the canal or riverside, or enjoying some other relaxing leisure time – perhaps watching the street performers in Covent Garden. This more leisurely pace is more likely to make happy memories, rather than subjecting your family to a relentless march from place to place, during which the only memories made are stressful.

Taking your family away from home on holiday should be a wonderful time, full of learning experiences and happy moments. You can help ensure this is the case by following the above steps and tailoring the holiday to suit your family’s needs and preferences.
