Tortuguero National Park
The Tortuguero National Park is bursting at the seam with a spectacular abundance of flora and fauna. Famous for its conservation efforts for the nesting leatherback sea turtle, the lagoons, canals and greenery of the national park are home to 111 species of reptile and 57 amphibians. If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of Costa Rica’s endangered green parrot and the vulture.
Explore this labyrinth of canals and wildlife by canoe or climb Cerro Tortuguero, an ancient volcanic deposit that looms at a height of 119 metres.
La Paz Waterfall Gardens
This peaceful haven is always aflutter with magnificent birds and butterflies, and it boasts a selection of spectacular waterfalls and rainforest hiking trails. Offering a real family-friendly vibe, the park is a great day trip destination as it is located near San Jose and takes a minimum of 2 hours to complete.
Known as the most famous waterfalls in Costa Rica, this lush tropical rainforest is home to jaguars, pumas, monkeys and hummingbirds amongst many others. Take your time to explore the many animal exhibits and restaurants available on the grounds.
Corcovado National Park
One of the most biodiverse regions in the world, Corcovado National Park is more coastal than the other destinations on this list. Offering pristine beaches and thrilling coastal hiking trails, you and your family will feel as though you have stepped into a whole new world.
Brimming with incredible wildlife, you can spot scarlet macaws, tapirs and jaguars on your journey around the park. Spot monkeys can also be found swinging from tree to tree.
