Lucas loves to ‘read’ books and magazines and it is something I will always encourage. I love to read, there is something special about being swept away into another world through words and using your own imagination to bring it to life, not rely on someone else’s perception on screen. Something I would like to do is make Lucas a reading corner in his room.
Nicola J Rowley offered to send Lucas one of her books, James and the Birthday Balloon.
James and the Birthday Balloon is an uplifting picture book aimed at 3-7-year-olds.
James loves to spread happiness through small acts of kindness. This time he’s at the birthday party of his best friend Ruby when she falls and hurts herself.
She’s scared as she has to go to hospital and doesn’t know what to expect. James manages to reassure Ruby and with his smile, a kind gesture and friendly nature makes everyone in the hospital feel a little better.
The story is a lovely tale showing children how a small act of kindness can make a huge impact on everyone around them. Lucas has really enjoyed me reading this to him and likes snuggling up while we read as well as ‘reading’ it to me by himself.
At the end of the book there is a QR code that you can scan to download a free audio book, narrated by every child’s favourite doctor, Dr Ranj.
£1 from every copy sold goes to Evelina London Children’s Hospital which cares for children across the South East of England. They offer a unique range of services from antenatal diagnosis through to childhood, into adolescence and on into adult life.
