This award-winning public garden offers floral displays, fountains, and an adventure playground. Perfect for families wanting a relaxing yet colourful day out.

Aysgarth Falls (Wensleydale)

Three spectacular waterfalls set amid woodland trails. A perfect spot for photography, picnics, and paddling on warm days.

Skipton Castle Woods

Next to the medieval Skipton Castle, this free-access woodland is full of trails, sculptures, and wildlife, great for kids who love exploring.

West Yorkshire

Roundhay Park (Leeds)

One of Europe’s largest city parks, covering over 700 acres with lakes, playgrounds, and landscaped gardens. The Tropical World next door is paid, but the park itself is completely free.

Kirkstall Abbey (Leeds)

The striking ruins of this 12th-century monastery sit beside the River Aire. The abbey grounds are free to wander, with a museum and café nearby.

While the gallery has an entry fee, the sculpture garden is free and open daily. It’s a peaceful green space filled with art, plants, and places to relax.

Oakwell Hall Country Park (Birstall)

A 110-acre parkland with woodlands, meadows, and a brilliant adventure playground. There’s also a small nature trail for families.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park (Near Wakefield)

This world-famous open-air gallery stretches across 500 acres of parkland. Most sculptures can be enjoyed from the public footpaths without entering paid sections.

Meanwood Valley Trail (Leeds)

Follow this urban countryside trail linking Woodhouse Moor to Golden Acre Park. Great for cycling or walking with kids who like spotting wildlife.

Pugneys Country Park (Wakefield)

A large lake with a circular walking path, a sandy play area, and picnic spots. It’s wheelchair- and buggy-friendly too.
