Transforming a Room Into a Nursery

November 24, 2021 by Jenni

If you have a bundle of joy on the way, you are sure to be filled with a wide range of emotions. This is an incredibly exciting time in your life, but it is also scary and daunting (especially if it is your first!). One of the most important steps to take is to make sure that you have a nursery room in the house and getting this room ready is a key step that could help you to feel much more prepared.

Choosing a Theme

A good starting point is to settle on a theme. Many people pick a theme based on the gender of the baby, but you do not have to do this. The theme could be key for their cognitive development as this will be an important space that they spend a lot of time in, so you should think carefully about the theme and choose something that makes the space appealing. You could simply opt for calming, neutral colours or incorporate learning, such as the ABCs.

Furniture

Next, you will want to look into furniture. Obviously, a crib will be the key item in the room and you will want to make sure that you find something that is reliable and high-quality whether you buy a brand new crib or someone gives you one of theirs. This is also a space that can become chaotic and cluttered, so sliding wardrobes are a good option as they are space-saving and will allow you to store everything that you need here while keeping the room neat and tidy. You may also want a comfortable chair that you can sit in with the baby if there is enough space and a changing table.

Accessories

Next, you will want to add accessories and finishing touches to make this a personal and welcoming space that is comfortable for both you and the baby. Photos of family members could be smart and aid with their development along with shelves filled with toys, ornaments and any gifts that loved ones have given them. Framed prints can also make the space more interesting and your own space.

Light, Air & Noise

Light, air and noise are particularly important in a nursery and aspects that need to be considered as this is key for your baby’s health and development. It is helpful to have blackout blinds, thick rugs and drapes to absorb sound and the ability to control temperature and airflow.

Hopefully, this post will help you to design the perfect nursery for your new arrival. Getting the nursery prepared is essential for any new parent and you should also find that it is a fun activity and will help you to feel less stressed in the run up to the big day.
