The benefits of bath salts

There is nothing like getting into a nice hot bath at the end of the day to relax your mind and unwind. Baths are a great way to soothe those aches and pains away and release your stresses of the day.

I have always loved taking a bath and a regular Christmas stocking filler I buy for D is some Epsom Salts as he has arthritis.

Epsom Salt bath benefits

  • Epsom salts are made up of magnesium and sulfate. Magnesium can aid a variety of bodily functions, including the removal of toxins. Sulfate can strengthen the walls of the digestive tract and make releasing toxins easier.
  • Epsom salts have also been recommended to D as they are known to help ease the pain of arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. The magnesium, whilst aiding the removal of toxins, can reduce swelling, stiffness and pain.
  • The salt bathwater can also soften dry skin and exfoliate the dead skin cells. They are said to aid conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
  • Magnesium may also help produce melatonin which is the hormone produced to help you sleep. An Epsom salt bath can reduce stress and induce sleep by boosting braining neurotransmitters and releasing muscle tension.

Creating an Epsom salt bath

Run the water in the bath, it shouldn’t be too hot but comfortable when you dip your hand in to test. Make sure you pour in the salts whilst the water is running to allow the salts to dissolve properly in the water. I like lighting a candle and putting a chilled out playlist on Amazon whilst I have a bath too.

Zenthusiasm bath salts

If you are like me, you will like to have a scent in the bath, something to help you drift away to a serene sanctuary. As great as Epsom bath salts are, they are often plain, lavender or eucalyptus. I love using eucalyptus when I have a cold but other than that, I don’t tend to go towards that scent. Lavender is always going to be lovely at bedtime but sometimes, an option of something else is nice to have. This is where Zenthusiasm have come to the rescue.

Zenthusiasm is a new homemade brand started by a Mum in lockdown with her daughter assisting her. As well as bath salts, they have also created an apricot body scrub and a bath/shower oil.
