How to Have a Positive Moving Experience

June 24, 2026 by Jenni

Moving, by its very nature, is a stressful endeavour for everyone involved. There is so much to do, and it all seems to happen at once. Not to mention the emotions of leaving a place you have lived in and grown in for years for something completely new and different, and your feelings are instantly compounded. Take a breath. You can do it. All you need is a plan.

Hire the Right Moving Company

Packing up and moving your belongings is a labour of love, and it is also quite labourious. You have worked so hard to purchase furniture you enjoy, and you have a lifetime of precious memories and collections that you want handled with care. You cannot leave these things to anyone.

Hiring the right removalist or mover is an essential component of any successful move. They will work with you to ensure your home is protected on both ends and avoid damaged walls, floors and door trim. Professional removalists know how to pack your belongings so they arrive at the next destination intact and unscratched.

Schedule One Last Appointment

When you arrive in a new city, or sometimes even a new part of your current hometown, you might need to find new medical providers. Instead of trying to get appointments right away once you are moved in, you should schedule one last appointment with all of your healthcare providers before moving.

This will be helpful in two ways. First, you will not need to worry about going longer than you should without an eye exam, vaccinations, or a teeth cleaning. Additionally, you can let your current providers know you will be moving, ask them for recommendations in your new location, and inquire about the records transfer processes. Some healthcare offices require you to fill out forms before they will transfer your records. Make the process much easier by asking.

Be Patient When You Arrive

A new home is filled with possibilities. It is exciting, but you would do well to slow down a bit and be patient with yourself. You do not need to fill every room and wall with new furniture and artwork. Set up your current furniture, decor, and other belongings first. You might be surprised at how an old armoire works perfectly in an alcove in your new home.

Instead of shopping right away, take notice of the space and the flow of each room. Your current table might be too big for the kitchen, but it will look great in the formal dining room. Once you have lived in your home for a bit, you will know what you want and what you need, so you will avoid unnecessary expenses and wasted time.

Do not leave your move to chance. Be proactive and find a professional removalist with great reviews. Take care of your medical appointments before you depart your current city, so you are not rushed to find new providers in the next one. And remember to be patient. Moving is a process.
