5 Ideas to Help You Get the Most Out of Your Garden

June 22, 2026 by Jenni

As soon as the summer months arrive, we all want to spend so much more time outside. But if your garden is small, overgrown, or it hasn’t been redone in a long time, you may always feel a little sad at the prospect of getting out into it! However, this could be the last year that you feel that way. Maybe now is the time for you to get the most out of your scenic outside space and show it a bit more love. The best part is that you can do it on your own terms and to your own budget. But to get you started, here are five ideas to inspire you.

Get it in Shape

First, before you do anything, make sure you’re getting it into shape. If it’s overgrown and there’s a lot that needs to be cut back, you need to get to work on it. For this, you may need to prune bushes and hire expert tree removal services to make the most of the space available. It’s all about starting with a blank canvas and then building on what you have.

Come Up With Design Ideas

When you’ve got more of a space to work with, you can then start to play around with some design ideas. If you’re not much of a keen gardener, then you may want to keep it as simple as possible. But if you love the idea of having a beautiful outside space, researching different design ideas could be a lot of fun for you. Then you have some inspiration for what to do with the space you have.

Focus on Low Maintenance

From here, you can then add in any plants or shrubs that you think will look lovely in your garden. You can even add in a new outdoor dining area or spruce up your existing space. But it’s important to make sure you’re choosing low-maintenance options. The last thing you want is to spend all of your time maintaining and upkeeping your garden, rather than being out there and enjoying it.

Plan Fun Areas

Then there’s the idea of adding some fun areas. If you’re looking for child-friendly garden designs, you might like the idea of a play area or some fun outdoor activity areas you can DIY! Maybe you want to have a water feature or even a rose garden. It’s all about bringing in the areas that help you to really maximise the space and get the most out of it.

Maintain and Enjoy it!

Finally, all that’s left for you to do at this point is to get out there and enjoy it. Make sure that you’re always keeping it tidy, trimming your lawn, and ensuring that your plants and shrubs look their best. Then, tidy away anything you’ve finished using when summer is over so that your garden will be just as good next year!
