A cosy garden quickly becomes one of the most loved spaces on any property. Cosy gardens are great for relaxing in the fresh air of an evening, but they are also great for entertaining friends and date nights too.
Okay, but how exactly do you make your garden feel cosy?
Make it private
Making your garden feel more private is the first step to increasing the cosiness factor. A high fence will prevent neighbours from being able to see you when you are chilling out in the yard. Make it even cosier by painting it a warm colour, or even better, grow ivy up the fence to create a lush, green screen between you and the neighbours.
Add ambient lighting
Outdoor wall lighting will ensure that your garden is illuminated enough that you can see what you’re doing without making the space so bright that it takes away from the warm cosy feeling you are trying to create, Fairy lights hung in trees or wrapped around fences can create the right ambience too.
Opt for wood
When it comes to garden furniture, then wood is your best option if you are trying to create a cosy look. It obviously feels a lot warmer in a space filled with wood than one that is populated with plastic or metal, and when treated right, wooden garden furniture can last a whole lot longer too.
Encourage Wildlife
Transforming your garden into a cosy haven involves more than just arranging plants; it’s about infusing life into every corner. Consider introducing vibrant flowers, not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for the bees and butterflies they attract, creating a lively buzz. Incorporate bird feeders and baths to invite feathered friends, filling your outdoor space with the cheerful melodies of chirping birds. Strategically placing comfortable seating amidst lush greenery encourages moments of relaxation, allowing you to bask in the beauty of nature. Add winding pathways adorned with fragrant herbs, stimulating the senses and making strolls through the garden a sensory delight. The gentle rustle of leaves and the soothing sound of a small water feature contribute to the overall ambience, creating a tranquil retreat that breathes life into your garden, making it not just a place to grow plants but a cosy sanctuary to unwind and connect with nature.
Don’t forget fabrics
Something a lot of people forget to do is to bring fabrics outdoors. Just as fluffy rugs and crocheted blankets help to make your home’s interior cosy, they can do the very same things outdoors too. A nice rug on the patio will soften it up or lots of outdoor cushions on the lawn will provide a comfy spot to relax and listen to the birds sing.
Add a splash of colour
Painting the shed bright yellow or staining the deck lavender purple will help to brighten the space up and make it feel more like a curated home interior, which is always going to be cosier than simply leaving everything neutral. That being said, you should use paint sparingly to allow as much of the natural wood to be exposed as possible – there’s nothing cosier than natural wood, after all.
Light a fire
A fire pit is an integral part of any cosy garden design. There is nothing like gathering around hot flames on a dark cool night to make you feel really cosy and really happy too, so try to find a nice spot to place a fire pit and some natural log seating, and see how much more time you spend in the garden as a result. Just bear in mind that once you have a fire pit in place, everyone will want to visit you more often!
A cosy garden is a garden that you can spend a lot of time in, breathing in fresh air and watching the wildlife, and that is really good for you, so what are you waiting for?
