Keeping Your Personal Style as a Mum

October 1, 2024 by Jenni

Making the transition to motherhood can be difficult. You could end up sleep-deprived, anxious, and stressing over hundreds of small uncertainties. For new mums, it can be a particularly challenging time. Fashion and style might be the furthest thing from your mind.

Of course, while your priorities might have shifted slightly, you might still place some importance on looking good. After all, your personal style might be a source of valuable self-confidence that you won’t want to throw away just because you’re a mum.

So, let’s take a look at how you can maintain that all-important sense of style, even as a new mum.

Prioritise Comfort Without Compromising on Style

During pregnancy, and the first few months after you’ve had the baby, comfort should be a priority. Look for clothes that stretch to accommodate your changing body. You can do this, fortunately, without throwing style out of the window. Look for trainers that support you while looking great. Look for jeans that fit properly, and fabrics that will stretch and breathe.

Of course, it’s also essential that you look for low-maintenance stuff. You’re not going to have much time to worry about your clothes – so look for items that won’t stain easily, and that won’t fall apart under strain.

Simplify Your Wardrobe with Capsule Dressing

A ‘capsule’ wardrobe is a highly condensed collection of high-quality, interchangeable clothes. Since everything in your capsule wardrobe can be mixed and matched with everything else, you won’t need to worry about deciding what to wear.

You can create a capsule wardrobe by simply throwing out a lot of your old attire. The right de-cluttering session can help you to create a more easily organised, stress-free home environment.

If you want to give your capsule wardrobe a clear identity, and help everything in there to feel like it’s yours, then the right accessories can be essential. Choose one piece that you can easily incorporate into your daily outfits such as a diamond ring, this can help you still add that personal touch to your looks without adding extra stress to your getting ready routine.

Incorporate Small Style Rituals

As a mum, you might find it difficult to find time for yourself. Style can provide a chance to do just that. Take your significant other, or another helpful person, to one side, and discuss setting aside a few minutes every day so that you can beautify yourself. A simple makeup routine, or a hair-styling session, can help you to maintain your confidence, and your sense of personal style.

Embrace Stylish Practicality

Just because an item is stylish doesn’t mean that it has to be impractical. Ideally, your wardrobe should be packed with items that balance both function and fashion. You might look to make a statement at the school gates with the right pair of dungarees, or head down to the shops in an effortlessly stylish summer dress. Make sure that everything you wear matches with your personal style.
