7 Ways to Make Your Home Run Like Clockwork

November 29, 2024 by Jenni

Is there anything worse than your life feeling like chaos? When we have busy lives, we all know how important it is to not only stay on top of all the things we need to do, but also have life running like a well-oiled machine too. When you feel like everything is all over the place and it’s overwhelming you, it might be time to bring in some measure that will clear that up. To help you, we’re now going to run through seven different ways you can make sure that your household is running like clockwork!

Have a Central Family Calendar

If you want everything in your home – and, let’s face it, your life too – to run like clockwork, you need to treat it like a military operation. Well, perhaps not that intensely, but it can help to have a top-line view of everything on a daily basis. This is where having a central family calendar (whether it’s hung on the wall in the kitchen or shared virtually) comes in. It can house all the important information for your household so you all know where you’re at at all times!

Create a Schedule

From there, you’ll want to make sure that you have a set schedule too. Having a central calendar can help you to see everything that you need to, but you’ll often want to go beyond that and make sure that you have a routine that works for you all. This can apply to not only a routine for your children (as well as you and your spouse too), but having a cleaning routine that you can easily stay on top of too. Having a clear schedule can help to reduce overwhelm and helps you to know where you need to be and when.

Set Designated Jobs

Next, you might want to think about the different chores that need doing too. There are always those everyday tasks that we need to get done – but more often than not, they fall into your hands. That doesn’t have to be the case. Everyone in the household can have their own set, designated jobs. There are a range of age-appropriate chores you can set for children to allow them to help out too. This will not only make you feel less stressed but ensure that the workload is appropriately shared and everything is running smoothly

Nail Important Chores

To help with that, you’re also going to want to make sure that you can nail important jobs on schedule too. This can often go beyond the chores that everyone has. There will always be those regular things we need to get done, but then there will be those sporadic (often seasonal) chores that we need to take on too. From getting the carpets cleaned to getting your cordless electric snow blower out in the winter to arranging an expert to come in to service your heating system, we need to schedule them in. This will help to ensure that the household keeps running effortlessly all year round.

Bring in Expert Help

But you won’t always want to feel the pressure to stay on top of everything yourself. In fact, it could be the case that you need some help to take the pressure off and keep everything under control – and that’s okay. Sometimes, asking your parents for help with the children, getting a nanny, or even hiring a cleaner can be all it takes for you to feel like everything if running seamlessly again!

Stay Organized

From here, you’re also going to want to make sure that the home stays as organized as possible. If it’s messy or disorganized, it’s only going to create chaos in the home. Instead, when you turn to organizational hacks that keep everything decluttered and streamlined, you’re going to feel much calmer in yourself.

Cut Out Anything Unnecessary

Finally, you’ll also find that it helps you to just cut things from your home to-do list that you don’t need to have there. More often than not, we’ll all have things on our list that aren’t necessary and they can add stress to our lives that isn’t needed. So you may need to be ruthless here. It could be that you just need to reduce the amount of jobs you have or streamline the way you do things. Ultimately, the reason you want your home to run like clockwork is because you want to spend more time living your life – so anything that can go should!
