Just as Feng Shui can affect our health and mood, the same is true for our children. We all want to create a perfect space for our children to play and sleep in, but it can be difficult at times to decide which colours, patterns, or themes are best suited for our children and their development.
Feng Shui for baby’s room is a great way to promote a safe, calming, nurturing environment for your baby to live and grow in.
The most obvious ways to use Feng Shui for a child’s room is to keep it free of clutter and clean it thoroughly at least monthly. It is said that spraying all-natural essential orange oil throughout the room after it’s been cleaned will help purify the space, and placing small cups of sea salt in each corner of the room for 3 days will minimise nightmares.
Open the windows in the room daily if possible, even in winter (when the baby is elsewhere, of course), to help keep the air fresh. Use fresh, crisp materials throughout the room, and avoid heavy window dressings that can block sunlight out completely.
Use soft wall paint colours like pale greens, light yellows, and pale pink. Stay away from neon colours or colours that are too pink or blue. Pastels are almost always the perfect choice for a nursery.
When choosing your baby’s crib (especially if you buy one that transitions as the child ages), stick with real wood, preferably with a solid, rounded headboard without shelving. This is said to give them a solid foundation in life. Also, invest in quality mattresses, and avoid plastic or particleboard furniture.
Avoid placing the crib directly across the door or in front of a window. Instead, try placing it diagonal to the door in a protected space.
Use only 100% cotton bedding, and avoid detergents with fragrances. If you don’t want to stick solely with solid-coloured sheets, make sure patterns are soft (no sharp edges), flowing, and not too busy. Change the sheets at least twice a week.
Ensure no sharp edges (such as from a dresser or bookshelves) are pointing at the crib.
Some people like to use prism crystals in the windows to create a calming effect throughout the room.
It is very difficult for a baby or child to sleep with a lot of stimulation around them, so play areas with many toys, shapes, sounds, or designs should be kept away from the nursery.
Build a soft, soothing sanctuary in their world that provides rest, security and peaceful energy. Your baby will develop better, and you will promote positive thinking and actions for your child throughout their life.
