Four Emergency Contacts Anyone Should Have in Their Phone in 2026

June 4, 2026 by Jenni

The mobile phone has certainly changed a lot since its inception in the late 1980s, and it’s a much more controversial part of modern society than it was back then. To own a phone today is to carry around a world of opportunity, and that brings some very positive things and some clear negatives.

One thing’s for certain, though: smartphones are fantastic for getting you out of a bind, and they can even save your life. From having a highly detailed map at your fingertips to being able to ask generative AI anything you like and receive a detailed answer, you and everyone else would likely feel very lost without them.

Today, though, it’s time to talk about maximising the most basic application every phone has had for the last 30 years, the phone book. Finding that life-saver contact when you have a problem is the best feeling in the world, and when the internet fails you, you’ll be very glad you took the time to deck yours out with the most important numbers.

But what sort of numbers should you have in there? Here are four emergency contacts anyone should store in their phone in 2026.

Emergency Medical Services

While it might seem counterintuitive to save what is a very memorable three-digit number in your contacts, this actually isn’t the case.

Often in times of panic, people will struggle to recall even the basics, and so being able to open your contacts and find the number labelled ‘Emergency Ambulance Service’ can be invaluable. You can do the same with other such services, such as the police or fire brigade.

Emergency Towing

You never know when you’re going to get stuck in your car, and when you do, you may be left in the middle of nowhere without any internet connection.

As such, it’s always a good idea to have your choice for emergency towing already saved in your phone. This is often something people totally forget about until they’re left in the lurch.

Local Utilities

Making sure you have a reliable electrician and a plumber in your contacts is vital.

When you’ve got water spurting out from the ceiling, you don’t really have time to flip through the local directories or even find someone via Google. You need to call someone fast, so don’t skip out on this kind of contact.

A Reliable Family Member

And finally, always have a reliable family member stored. You’re sure to have plenty of people who you can trust, but do you definitely have people in there that are trustworthy and could come and get you out of a bad situation at a moment’s notice?

Your mum might be the person you trust more than anyone, but if she doesn’t drive, she may not be much help to you. Think practically!

With these four contacts in your phone, you should cover most eventualities. Hopefully, you won’t be facing an emergency anytime soon, but if you do, you’ll have the help to hand.

Life throws you curveballs sometimes, and when it does, being prepared is everything.
