We have had an awful August, its been wet and miserable and not at all like Summer should be. The garden makeover has been rained off several times and my thoughts have been moving to the living room. I want it to be nice and cosy ready for winter, for us to curl up on the sofa and watch movies with the curtains closed and lots of treats.

Getting your living room super cosy

Use soft throws, cushions or blankets on the furniture to sink into or wrap around yourselves. Cox and Cox have an incredible collection of faux fur, wool and cotton throws as you can see from the photo above. They look so luxurious and perfect for the winter evenings ahead.

Add a large thick, soft rug to the floor, especially if you don’t have carpet on your floors. It can create the feeling of extra warmth and comfort and will look incredible against a wooden floor.

I love candles and want them everywhere, particularly in winter. I will have them on the fireplace, the coffee table and side tables. Nothing gives out the impression of cosiness, like the warm flickering light of candle. Get some scented ones for more effect, cinnamon, sandalwood, ginger, caramel and orange are lovely in Winter.

Using lamps is a fab way of creating subtle lighting when the children are still up and you aren’t confident about leaving candles lit.

Have photo’s of family and friends around the room, it immediately creates a welcoming feel rather than bare walls and side tables. Books on shelves also creates a cosy atmosphere, many people may use tablets for reading now but a collection of books can make a big difference to the feel of the room.

Invest in some good quality thick curtains, as well as creating a cosy space, they will help keep energy bills down, keeping the warmth in and the cold out.

I love wax burners with autumnal scents – or the B&M bath and body works candle dupes, I think I have radiant red maple. I really agree about the throws on the sofas…my faux fur throw is my favourite snuggly blanket

Candles and blankets are the big ones for me. There’s nothing nicer than snuggling under a blanket with a scented candle on!

We’ve lit a candle tonight and it feels so much more cozy with one of those! Great tips and thick curtains really help!

I love candles as well and i have all around my living room and my bedroom. I have also changed the curtains and it immediately created a more cosy atmosphere in my living room. On a different note, I think I love all my home for summer arriving to the UK this year…

I think a fire makes a room so cosy in the winter. We have a wall in our living room that has a forest wallpaper. It makes the room seem so snug in the winter.

We have a log fire so looking forward to lighting that again on the coldest nights or making do with candlelight on the warmer ones.
