Educational family holiday ideas

June 13, 2021 by Jenni 5 Comments

Family holidays can be fun filled, and memorable. Adults and children are always learning, it doesn’t matter what age and there is no better time to keep learning than on a family holiday. No matter where your travel destination is consider some the following educational opportunities on your trip.

Art museums

Art museums are located in almost every city across the world. At an art museum, adults and children in the family may observe, study, and discuss the different types of art work at a museum. This is an excellent time to introduce to family members new types of art work, and artists that they may not have seen or heard of before at home or in a classroom setting. If the art museum has tour guides, consider taking a tour and expand your horizons. From popular national art museums to local artists, there is something that can be learned.

History museums

Historical museums will reinforce history books. At history museums family members can take a step back in time and get an idea about life back in a particular day in time. One example of a history museum or a historical site is located in Gettysburg Pennsylvania. If your destination is not to a major battle field, local museums in small cities and towns are informative for educational purposes. Many museums show films and also offer true to life performances.

Animal sanctuary’s

A family favourite for learning and education opportunities on holiday is the zoo, animal sanctuary or a marine life aquarium. These are fun filled places to learn about different types of animal kingdoms, and various types of species. In addition, family members may enjoy visiting a petting zoo. Family members may be allowed to feed animals and learn what the different types of foods the animals eat.

Sightseeing

Take a tour and do some sight seeing. Look at the different types of buildings, architecture and discuss the origins. Take pictures of the different building or historical landmarks you see.

Take a tour of a factory or a business. Learn how something is manufactured or made if it is available for you and your family to do.

Food

Turn food into an educational experience too. Try different types of foods from various cultures and backgrounds and learn about how and where a food originated from. While eating at a restaurant consider asking questions about different types of foods.

Family holidays are memorable,so therefore why not keep educating yourself and family on a holiday. Education does not have to be just in a classroom or in a book, but learning can be done even on a family holiday.

We always are trying to get along to different history museums, and often take a moment to look up extra information before we go, so that we can talk about the different places with more knowledge. I love the idea of making food into education!

We absolutely love going to museums. I always took my children during the winter months. So much to do and see in there.

We love going to places to see animals. I think it’s such a good way to teach our little boy about animals.
