We have lived in Dordogne for nearly 5 years, and I have seen them twice. Dan managed to see a whole family of boar crossing the road when he was on the way home from work.

Just be careful you don’t leave your foie gras or even best dog food outside for too long. That can attract unwanted pests to your garden and lead to all sorts of issues. Cities are the worst location for this but it can also be a problem if you live near a forest where wildlife is more diverse.
Coypu
The coypu, also known as the nutria, is an invasive species originally from South America but now commonly found in various parts of France, particularly in wetlands and along riverbanks. These large rodents are recognised by their orange teeth and long, rounded tails. Coypus are known for their burrowing habits, which can cause significant damage to waterway banks and agricultural lands. Despite being considered a pest in some regions, they have adapted well to the French environment and are often seen swimming or foraging near water bodies.
Squirrels
There are various species of squirrels in France. The red squirrel is common in French woodlands and is easily recognisable by its bushy tail and agile movements through the trees. There is also the grey squirrel, black morph, European flying squirrel, Alpine marmot, and common dormouse.
