On my quest for a more eco-friendly lifestyle, I’ve started using a natural deodorant. These are some I have tried so far.
Kutis natural deodorant stick
This plant-based deodorant is made in Wales with ingredients that come from nature, to keep you fresh and smelling great all day without any chemicals or lab-made stuff!
It is completely plastic-free with a super sustainable paperboard push-up tube! The deodorant is cruelty-free and suitable for vegans. It’s available to buy in an impressive 7 scents for £6.45 and from the amount needed, I imagine this stick is going to last at least 3 months.
I opted for lavender and geranium which is beautiful, I stay fresh and odour free without the deodorant being overpowering and it’s such a lovely natural scent. Some of the ingredients are below.
- Arrowroot powder: absorbent and softening
- Coconut oil: antibacterial and moisturising
- Lavender: naturally soothing and relaxing
- Geranium: anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal
To use, you can either rub the stick under your arms or rub it on your fingers then massage it under your arms. I use the stick to rub some on and then massage in, it melts in my skin perfectly and doesn’t leave any marks on clothes or my skin.
I received this from EarthBits, who I featured last week with my plastic-free kitchen accessories. EarthBits work with a charity called one tree planted. Every month they donate part of their revenue to help reforestation in areas of the world that have been affected or need it most. EarthBits deliver worldwide.
Fit Pit natural deodorant
I use the subscription service for my razor blades from Friction Free Beauty. In my first subscription, I received a beautiful handle with blades, now I just receive blades to replace my current handle. When they added natural deodorant to the options in the subscription, I was eager to try it. The natural deodorants are made by Fit Pit and are available in 3 scents. I opted for the rosemary & bergamot. Some of the ingredients are below.
- Bicarbonate of Soda: alters the PH of the skin to prevent bacteria from thriving.
- Coconut Oil: is an effective moisturiser, that helps with dry skin.
- Aloe Vera: contains cooling properties that soothe the skin.
- Shea Butter: a natural moisturiser that feeds the skin.
- Arrowroot: a natural binding ingredient.
To use the deodorant, you take some from the tin on your fingers and rub it in, it easily melts into your skin and doesn’t leave marks on your skin or clothes. It costs £5 and that lasts me about a couple of months. Friction Free Beauty have a UK site and an EU site, depending on where you would like delivery.
Tropic Feel Fresh deodorant
I love Tropic and use most of their skincare products, in fact, I love them so much, that I became a Tropic ambassador. Tropic skincare is made from 100% naturally derived ingredients, they are made in the UK with delivery worldwide, and they offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all products. They have been approved by Cruelty-Free International, certified by the Vegan Society and are a certified carbon neutral company. I really like that all their products have their ingredients listed in English too.
Every Tropic purchase, no matter how big or small, now funds education for children living in some of the world’s poorest, most remote communities. To put your purchases into perspective, every £50 spent equals a whole school day in either Cambodia, Nepal or Myanmar.
Tropic Feel Fresh smells absolutely delicious and goes on smoothly from the tube. The tube costs £10 and lasts for about 3 months. Some of the ingredients are below.
- Bentonite clay: composed of volcanic ash, it effectively absorbs odours, sweat and toxins while keeping underarms fresh all day long.
- Bisabolol: soothes irritation and helps to repair damaged skin, especially after shaving or waxing, by replacing moisture and helping to maintain the skin’s natural balance.
- Gingergrass extract: antibacterial, antiseptic and antifungal properties that help to relieve skin irritation and control body odours.
If you do want to order anything, please select Jenni Grainger, Chorley at the checkout. I will earn a few pennies but it won’t cost you anything extra. Feel free to email me too if you’d like any advice on the products.
Wild deodorant is powered by plants, not aluminium salts or parabens and sulphates and all their formulas are certified vegan and cruelty-free. It can be bought as a one-off purchase or you can subscribe and get a 20% discount.
When you first sign up, you choose an aluminium case in the choice of colour you would like. They currently offer blue, black, purple and aqua. I chose the electric blue. Once you have added your case, you move on to which fragrance deodorant you would like.
The deodorants come in a variety of fragrances, some will stay around, others will be limited editions, there are 8 to choose from at the moment. I opted for Jasmine and Mandarin Blossom which blends sweet, sophisticated notes of jasmine with fresh and exotic smells of mandarin blossoms. I absolutely love it, the scent is beautiful without being overpowering and it is so easy to apply.
I went with the subscription option and I can change my delivery date if I think I need it earlier or later than planned. It can also be cancelled at any time. The refills are made of bamboo pulp so no plastic waste. Every time you buy, you help grow the Wild forest thanks to their partnership with ONAMISSION. By planting more trees, they’re proud to be carbon negative and so far they’ve planted over 50,000 trees!
Since writing this, I have cancelled the subscription as I found some of my clothes were being marked by it. When I went to cancel and they asked the reason, one of the options was staining clothes and the automated response was they are trying to find a way around this so I can’t be the first person to have had this issue.
I received this a while ago as a PR sample and unfortunately, I just didn’t find it worked for me. Nuud is an anti-odorant that they claim it lasts 3-7 days with only one application. Sports, being active or showering should have no effect on nuud’s effectiveness. The packaging is made of sugar cane. A tube that costs £12.95 lasted me about 7 weeks. Nuud is a cream consistency and is squeezed from the tube onto your fingertips to rub under your arm, it rubs in quite well but not as quick as the Kutis or Fit Pit. I also needed to wash my hands very well. You can read my full Nuud deodorant review here.
It contains micro silver, which naturally prevents the smell of perspiration, without blocking the pores or irritating the skin. In addition, they use certified, natural ingredients such as coconut oil, carnauba palm wax and almond oil, to keep the micro silver in place.
Which is my favourite natural deodorant?
My favourite so far I have tried is Tropic. I love the scent, it doesn’t mark my clothes and I don’t need to use my fingers to rub it in. The only downside for me is they don’t deliver to the EU.
