When you’ve got a beauty salon business, trying to grow outward can be a bit of a tricky thing to do. It is in every business, of course! But when you’re selling beauty treatments and experiences, there’s very little you can do to let a client ‘try before they buy’.
You need them to come through the door, like what they see, and find the perfect treatment for them on the price list. You need them to be willing to work with you, and come away feeling like they’ve been pampered to perfection.
And that’s why it can be so expensive to try to expand a beauty salon. You can invest in machines that cost thousands, as well as training courses that cost hundreds, and you still may not get more than one or two clients on the other side.
But there are ways to expand without wasting every single penny you have. Here’s what to keep in mind.
Create a Referral Program
Beauty salons tend to thrive on repeat custom. After all, when it comes to our faces and bodies, we want to know we’re going to have a good experience before we’ve even booked in!
So when someone has already got their nails done in your salon, or they’ve had a massage that really sorted out the crick in their neck, they’re going to come back again and again.
Why not make it easier for them to do so? As well as invite their friends and family to come along for similar treatments too? That’s where a referral program is invaluable for a business like yours.
They get a discount on a treatment, as does a loved one, and they both have a great experience that makes them want to use your services at least once more.
Get Feedback From Your Clients
The best people to ask about treatments that could turn a profit? Your clients themselves! If they want it, they’re going to pay for it when you invest/train in a new treatment.
So, try to get a bit more feedback on this topic. And thankfully, there are quite a few ways to do this.
You can do so directly, by asking them what they would want to see you offer over the next 12 months or so. You can also get this feedback a bit more indirectly, by simply paying attention to the things your clients talk about when they’re in the session with you.
They may even ask outright about whether or not you do a certain treatment! However, be careful with this. If one person comes in and asks if you have an alma laser hair removal machine, that doesn’t necessarily showcase high demand.
You need at least three other clients to ask about the hair removal treatments as well, as this will guarantee it’s a treatment that’s on everyone’s minds.
Expanding your beauty salon will be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be a waste of money!
