Must-Have Garments for Your Holiday Suitcase
Summer is finally here and it is time to start packing for your much-needed getaway, whether this is a last-minute break or something that has been on the cards for years. However, with limited space to pack – it can be difficult to decide what to take with you, and work out what you will actually need! Well, we have got you covered – here out our must-haves this summer.
Things you cannot forget:
Comfortable underwear
This may seem like an obvious one – but trust us you don’t want to have an underwear malfunction whilst trying to tour around a new city! Make sure to pack some comfortable options, and a few spare pairs just in case- and you are good to go!
Swimwear
Bringing a few swimwear options is especially important if you are going on a beach holiday. Even if you’re not planning on going to a tropical destination, most hotels do have pools you might want to enjoy, and you don’t want to be caught out!
Trainers
Although it can be super tempting to only pack cute heels or fancy sandals, make sure to bring some comfy trainers that you can walk in. This is great if you start to get blisters or are walking regularly on rough terrain. A travel packing hack to ensure your trainers and other clothes in the suitcase don’t get ruined is using cotton bags for packing your shoes. You can also stuff the trainers with socks to save space and keep them in shape.
A foldable rain jacket
This can be really useful and it doesn’t take up too much space in your luggage, perfect in case there are any unexpected rain showers on your trip.
Nightwear
We tend to forget about this one but it’s very important. Choose wisely and always go for the option you’ll feel most comfortable in. If you are going away with your partner, why not pick up a new lingerie set and nightgowns to add some romance to your trip! Make sure you consider the weather and bring some light clothing away.
Sunglasses
Make sure to bring a pair of sunglasses on your trip to protect your eyes, especially if you are planning on going on a beach/sunbathing vacation. We recommend bringing a spare pair just in case as they can easily be misplaced or broken!
Other non-clothing essentials you don’t want to forget:
It is not clothes that are the only things you need to make sure you bring with you.
Documents
Whether this is travel insurance, passport, or emergency contacts it can be best to print these out just in case you can’t log into Wifi or run out of charge on your phone. Make sure that your travel insurance covers any additional activities that you are planning on doing – as if you are injured you may not be covered and could be at risk of picking up a large medical bill yourself. Make sure you have at least 6 months left on your passport before travelling, and you have printed out your visa if required.
Medication
Make sure you have packed all medication that you will need for your trip, and try to pack a week’s extra supply in case of emergency or flight delays- this will give you extra peace of mind whilst you are away,
Money
To get the best exchange rates, try to exchange holiday money prior to arriving at the airport or destination. I use the borderless bank account, Wise, so I have a balance in GBP, EUR and USD where I can exchange money instantly within my account to spend depending on where I am. They use the real-time exchange rate as you’ll find on independent sources like Google, XE, and Yahoo Finance. (Their fees are as low as 0.35%.) You can hold and manage money in more than 50 currencies. This lets you avoid exchange rate movements and prepare for future transfers. Not only will this save you money, but also stress and hassle allowing you to make time for what really matters.
