I don’t know about you, but I find it a struggle to keep up with fashion trends these days. Between juggling a family, my non-stop work schedule and my own personal life I just cannot find the time, and to be completely honest with you, I don’t feel like I am missing out!
Looking back on my younger years I recall being in with the latest fashion trend, only for my Mum to show me a picture of herself taken many years earlier in an almost identical outfit. To ensure I can stay looking trendy without having to be on-trend I can rely on a few wardrobe staples to see me through any occasion or event. This makes it easy to refresh your wardrobe on a budget too. Keep reading to see my must have clothing items!
Leather Jacket
Leather jackets are brilliant and can be worn with a load of different outfits depending on the style and the occasion. If you choose one with a belt you can show off your figure, and you can wear one knowing you will be protected from the elements. For a daytime look you can wear one over a striped t shirt and some stonewashed jeans for a rocker inspired outfit, or for an evening outfit you can wear one over a little dress with some heels and a bag.
Fitted Jeans
Every mum knows the wonders of a pair of perfectly fitted jeans. I love high waisted jeans as they are a great way to show off your killer curves, even if you don’t have any! I’ve had the same pair of jeans in my wardrobe for years now and they still look and feel like they did when I got them, which is testament that quality is really worth paying a little extra for. Converse
You must have a pair of trainers in your wardrobe, a life of heels and strappy flats is no good for your feet. I love my Converse and whenever I wear a pair out, which is not very often, I always replace them with another pair even when I tell myself I won’t. There’s a certain nostalgia about a pair of Converse, not only to my younger years where we would all personalise our pair with song lyrics, hearts and stars, but before that, like in the movies we watched growing up, you were always sure to see the cool kid wearing a pair.
Hoody
I had to include a hoody in this list because I simply cannot live without one, from lounging around the house and garden to nipping to the shop, a hoody is perfect for many occasions. I have many hoodies in my wardrobe but there is one special one that I wear more than the others, it’s personalised with my name, and the names of the other members from an event I helped organise in the local community before I moved to France, it is a great way for me to still feel like part of the community despite no longer living there. Little Black Dress
This was the first item I thought of when putting together this list, and rightly so, I think this is the absolute wardrobe essential for every Mum. When you get some time to let your hair down and have some me time you need to perfect outfit. How do you make a girl feel a million dollars?
