We absolutely love the lakes and have been lucky enough to stay in some fantastic hotels all over Cumbria. Windermere is our favourite though and we were excited about being invited* to stay at Beech Hill Hotel & Spa. We set off just after lunch and had great drive there, the hotel is situated on the eastern bay of Lake Windermere and the sat nav took alongside the lake for four miles and the views were spectacular. As you arrive at the hotel there is great parking at the front and a large car park to the rear.

We checked in and hurriedly went to our room to see what was in store for us. Upon opening the door, we were excited to see a huge room with breath taking views across Lake Windermere.

There were two double beds with lots of space between and around, a lounge area with a table and leather couch against a wall of windows, drinks facilities, bathroom with a shower and a nice balcony to take in the view.

We decided to unpack and get our swimming costumes and head down to spa facilities we had heard so much about. I would recommend taking a dressing gown (you can also hire bathrobes and slippers for £5 throughout your stay) with you and changing before you go down as the changing area is small. There are only 3 changing rooms and the lockers to keep your clothes in are very small.

The leisure facilities include two spa treatment rooms, a Himalayan Sauna, an aromatic Steam Room, an outside vitality spa pool in a scented garden and an indoor pool. The spa area was very well maintained and a lovely temperature as it was a cold Autumn day outside. The vitality spa is amazing with breath taking views over Lake Windermere and gets you nice and warm even though it was cold outside. The contrast of temperatures was very refreshing in the morning.

After our swim we were very hungry, we headed back to the room to get changed ready for our evening meal. We were seated in the lounge area of the hotel and here you get to see how beautiful the hotel is with its wood panelling and again that view over Windermere. On walking through the hotel, it has the feel of a stately home with all the fine antiques, it is clean and inviting. We enjoyed our evening meal in Burlington’s and you can click on the link to read the review

We had an interrupted nights sleep unfortunately, due to loud people above our room.  D got up early to explore the landscaped stepped garden leading to the jetty on the edge of the lake. The view at 7.30 in the morning with no boats and people is stunning, he said all you could see was birds calling out to each other. The garden itself was beautiful and you get different views of the lake as you walk down the various levels. I can imagine nothing nicer than sitting here in the summer with a glass of wine relaxing. Unfortunately, this wasn’t left as tidy as I expected. There was some old mini bottles of Prosecco and glasses that looked like they had been left there for a while.

Breakfast was served in Burlington’s and it was a fab spread with pastries, fresh fruit, cereal and hot buffet with everything you needed to make a full English breakfast. Tea, coffee and numerous cold drinks were in abundance. If you wanted something else, there was also a cook to order menu which included a full vegetarian breakfast, gluten free options and various fish dishes. Once we had finished, we headed back down to the lakeside to do some skimming stones, Lucas and D always do this when we come to the lakes. There was so much wildlife around and we even had two robins who were ever so friendly and unfazed by us humans, dancing around Lucas.

After our walk to let our breakfast go down, we headed up to the room to get our swimming costumes ready to hit the pool. We got down to the pool at 9am so it was nice and quiet, we enjoyed the pool to ourselves and took it in turns soaking up the views from the tub across Lake Windermere, words couldn’t possibly do it justice. Once we had finished it was time to get our belongings and check out for our day around Windermere, getting the boat across to Brockholes. We really enjoyed our stay at Beech Hotel and Spa, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel is in such a stunning location x

  1. Oh wow you’re not wrong, the view from where you were was breathtaking. I need a break in somewhere like that surrounded by nature just to relax my mind a little. Hopefully where there is no computer for me to check work lol.

  2. It’s a shame your night sleep was interrupted by the guest above. But I’m glad you made the most of the facilities on offer like the pool. It’s nice to see breakfast catering for for dietary needs as this would be our main concern due to my daughters milk allergy.
