The Farmers Arms in Heskin is situated about 5 minutes from junction 27 of the M6 motorway. Originating from the 1700s it was once called The Pleasant Retreat and renamed in 1902. My Grandma offered to take Lucas and I out for lunch before having a wander around Derby House so I suggested we called at The Farmers on the way.

The outside of the pub always looks so welcoming with seasonal plants and flowers, the inside was warm and homely. We ordered drinks at the bar and asked for a high chair before choosing a table. Lucas was grumbly whilst we waited for food but I didn’t feel like we weren’t welcome and none of the other customers stared thankfully, I hate it when we disturb other peoples lunch. Once lunch was served and he had a couple of chips Lucas was back to his jolly self, although he did get a little over excited and banged his head against the back of the childs chair so I popped a cushion behind him and that solved that problem.

Steak barm

Lucas and I shared a steak barm which was £5.95. I was very impressed with the portion size, the steak barm had onions on it and was served with real home cooked chips, coleslaw and salad. It was truly delicious.

My Grandma had lasagna which was £8.95. It came individually baked with chips and vegetables to accompany it.

The food was superb and the staff were friendly. I would definitely recommend it if you live local or are passing by. It’s really easy to get to from the Charnock Richard Services junction (as long as the barriers are open) or the Standish junction (27) from the M6.

I think the food sounds really reasonably priced, especially as the lasagna is individually cooked x
