On Wednesday we were invited* to The Brasserie in Lancaster. The Brasserie is the first part of transforming the Royal Kings Arms into a luxury boutique hotel.
There is a stunning bar area to the left as you walk in and to the right is the restaurant. The wooden tables are set simply with serviettes and cutlery with luxuriously plump chairs. There is a feature wall in a beautiful gold and cream wallpaper adorned with branches and birds. It has been very elegantly done and I would love to have a nosy round the bedrooms and can’t wait to visit The Crypt when that is opened as a champagne and cocktail bar!
Once we were seated, we were given menus, there is an all day brunch menu and a main menu. There isn’t a children’s menu but the normal menu can be adapted to children’s portions and the chef was happy to make a sandwich for Lucas when I asked.
For our starters, my Grandma had prawn tempura and I had taco’s with smoked tofu, avocado, salsa picante and fresh salad. Grandma really enjoyed the prawns and the salsa picante on my taco’s was delicious.
For our main courses, my Grandma had oven roasted lemon sole in parsley butter and confit of lemon with buttered jersey royals and green beans. My Grandma thought the fish was cooked beautifully and I had a little try of her potatoes which were perfectly seasoned and cooked.
I had marinated tofu with sticky rice, roasted beets, radish and carrot, avocado tahini finished with pink ginger wasabi and sesame seed. It should also have had sesame noodles in it but they were replaced with tagliatelle so I assume they had run out of stock. I absolutely loved this dish, it was light and packed with flavour.
Lucas had ham sandwiches and chips and was very happy with that. I was impressed with the amount of ham on the bread and also the quality of it.
To finish off the meal, Lucas had strawberry ice cream and my Grandma had a coffee which came with a little almond biscuit.
We all really enjoyed the meal and can’t fault the service. Luxury hotels can sometimes make me feel a little uneasy when I have an unpredictable 3 year old with me and all the staff went out of their way to ensure everything was ok for us and Lucas welcome.
Oh, I nearly forgot about my cocktail! It was sooo good. I chose Spring’s First Bloom, an immense mix of Hendricks gin, St Germain elderflower liquor and fresh lemon. It was so tasty, fruity and sweet x
We were invited for a complementary meal in exchange of this review
